Experiencing new things tends to give you a different perspective on the stuff you have experienced in the past. For instance, now that I have students of my own, I am rethinking my attitude towards my past and present supervisors.
I used to think that supervisors were these all powerful, all knowing creatures whose only ambition was to fill me with their knowledge.
Right now I’m starting to suspect I’m mostly a nuisance doing work the dude doesn’t have the time for but would do better if he did.
Although it turns out that having someone working for you is much more taxing than having to work for someone. You have to make sure they ca do their job and be available for questions and saving the day when everything explodes (note to self : never instruct students before having coffee).
Oh well, you live you learn…
