Cockatoo Island

There are many remarkable things about Cockatoo island. There’s the old Wharf, the old prison, the statue of the diver and the amazing artworks on the buildings. But the most remarkable thing is: there are absolutely no cockatoos.

Moniek and I took a trip from the Olympic park to Darling Harbor, with Cockatoo island as a stop. It was eerie and absolutely magnificent. Some pictures..

That's a big diver..Sydney & me, what a pair

Moniek took a few pretty  pictures of me

Boring shop is boring
And I took a picture of a boring shop, yawn…

There are many remarkable things about Cockatoo island. There’s the old Wharf, the old prison, the statue of the diver and the amazing artworks on the buildings. But the most remarkable thing is: there are absolutely no cockatoos.

Which is in shrill contrast to the road near my house, which is not called anything related to cockatoos, and is crawling with them.

Why did the cockatoo cross the road? You know you are in a foreign  country when exotic animals are also known as ‘road kill’

It’s really weird to see birds that you’ve only ever seen  before at the zoo hanging around in lamppost and crossing the road like ordinary chicken.

Oh well, all in a day’s Australia..
